We love our teenagers, but we don’t trust them…

I usually get an odd look when I say it out loud. Our kids are the center of our universe. We want to give them every advantage in life, but we don’t trust them…

They take unnecessary risks, and they don’t always tell the truth.

It could be that we’re not naturally trusting people.

It could be we recall our own less than trustworthy teen years. Why should our kids be any different?

It could be that there’s some science to indicate that teen brains aren’t fully developed. https://www.stanfordchildrens.org/en/topic/default...

So, we try to balance freedom with supervision—giving them a chance to grow and learn. They can talk to us about anything…and they do.

We don’t allow girlfriends upstairs; we have their passwords and there aren’t any locked doors. We communicate well and we’re grateful that they are growing into good young men.

We love them but we don’t trust them and thanks to a conversation with a good friend, we also randomly drug test them. https://www.cvs.com/.../cvs-health-home-drug-test-kit...
